August has just flown by! It has been an awesome month for me! First off, I was able to take a nice long weekend off and go out of town for a mini vacation. Then a week later, I took an entire week off for a full vacation. That combined with a Monday off for the holiday, gave me 10 days straight off of work including the weekends! I don’t think I have ever been able to pull something like this off ever. On vacation I was able to also cross off a few bucket list items. Going to New York City was the first. Lots to see and do there for sure, just wish I had more time.
Secondly, I was able to attend a few sessions of the US Open! That is a dream for any tennis fan to be able to attend any of the four majors. I even made it on TV during one match! My friend sent me a text during one of the matches and pointed me out behind one of the players on a change over. So I’m kind of famous and a big deal now, haha just kidding. While this month did cost me more money than I am used to spending, it was well worth it. The journey is half the fun right? This month is exactly what I needed to relax and recharge from life. No one wants to get burnt out. But the best part is, while I was out having fun, my dividends were still working hard for me. So on that note, let’s dive into the dividends!
NNN – $13.79
GIS – $12.38
HRL – $5.13
O – $3.40
LTC – $3.23
August dividends, add up to $79.77 which represents a 24% increase from last year where I made $64.33. Below are some charts from my portfolio page to better visualize the results.
I am pretty excited about my August totals because I set a new record for myself. Not a monthly dividend record, but total amount of companies paying me dividends in a single month. As you can see from above, I have 7 companies paying me dividends. This is partly because of my last two recent buys of O and LTC. Both of these REITs pay dividends monthly, so they should compound nicely over time and increase each month’s dividends moving forward.
LTC is actually a new purchase I made earlier this month. You can see all the details here of that trade. So not only was I able to add a new position to my portfolio, it has already paid out once! Hope to see it continue to pay out for the long term.
Lastly, as you can see from the chart below, I am within about $20 of my 2016 dividends collected. So I will easily break that this month, especially it being the end of a quarter. Then it’s crunch time till the end of the year to try and achieve my goals by year end.
How did your portfolio perform in August? Has anyone else hit any milestones this month? Have you beaten last year’s income yet? Is anyone else out there a tennis fan and has been watching? Has anyone ever been to the open or a major tournament? Any fun vacations planned coming up? Comments are always welcome below.
